BOD Minutes – Nov 20, 2020

CTSS BOD ZOOM Meeting Minutes – 11-20-20

Attendees: Louise (host), Phil, Bob, Bill, Jacqui, Norm. Duck not attending. George is late.

Call to Order: 7:36 PM

Officer Reports:

Chairman – Charlie Allen & Bill Dexter

President – George McCleary

Treasurer – Bob Smith

Checkbook balance is the same as last month…$9054.79. No checks have gone out. Two checks will be going out shortly; a $400.00 check to the Torrington/Litchfield Hills Elderly nutrition for their Meals on Wheels program & a $100.00 check to the Salvation Army in Winsted.

(George signs on 7:46 PM)

Norm suggested we make more donations because the need is so great. He suggested FoodShare or other similar organizations. At Bill’s suggestion, Norm will look into a suitable organization for a $200.00 donation & report at next meeting.  Norm made a motion to set aside $200.00 for a potential donation in December. If we find something appropriate, then the money is already set aside. Bill seconded the motion & all were in favor.

Bill said he was not against the donations, but suggested that because Christmas time is normally a time of greater donations, maybe January or February or even later in the year would be a better option because the need is still there but the donations are not.

Bob stated that we will also have about $550.00 in expenditures in the 1st quarter of 2021; $225.00 to the Chamber of Commerce & $300.00 To CTWebFactory for our website.

Jacqui reminded everyone that we will also have another big expenditure when our Santa Cares food drive kits are finished….hopefully soon.

George asked if there are any requests for toys. George just did an infomercial for “We the Children” organization. Most of the kids they serve are DCF kids & they are looking for donations to cover approximately 1000 kids. Phil asked if they would take a cash donation instead of toys. George will look into it. Bob noted to George that he has about 200/250 Matchbox cars still in original packages that was given to him to hand out, but if  ”We the Children” could use them, he would donate to them. George will ask about them.

Louise stated that she & Phil will be doing a fundraiser for “Toys for Tots” soon in Newington.

Bob says he also gets letters from the CT National Guard Foundation. The foundation supports families while servicemen/women are deployed overseas or assisting in Covid relief such as setting up mobile hospitals or soon to assist with the distribution of the vaccine.

Bill made a motion (separate from Norm’s motion) to donate $250.00 to the CT National Guard Foundation for wherever the need is the greatest. Phil seconded the motion & all were in favor.

(Bill leaves meeting 8:15 PM)

Secretary – Jacqui Kuzmik

In the discussion of the 10-16-20 Website follow-ups, Bob said that he would like to make a motion that if the website is not up & operational by the end of February, than he proposes that we not renew our contract with CTWebFactory & completely abandon it. We have been screwing around with this for 10 years now & spending $300.00 a year that could be spent somewhere else. Jacqui seconded the motion.
